The process by offering the first FIFA World Cup in the continental rotation (the process of rotating the World Cup hosting to each confederation at a time) was the FIFA World Cup 2010.

Será o maior evento ostentado neste continente, que como as Olimpíadas, ainda não tinha sido organizado no continente africano. Assim, candidataram-se a África do Sul, o Marrocos, o Egito e a candidatura binacional Líbia-Tunísia.
Em 15 de maio de 2004, em Zurique, Suíça, a África do Sul derrotou Marrocos por 14 votos a 10. O Egito não recebeu nenhum voto e Líbia e Tunísia retiraram-se em 8 de maio de 2004 depois de oferecerem sua junção, que não foi permitida.

Is one of the most important stages of the Cup, getting six first round matches, an eighth-finals, a quarter-final and a semi-final, a total of nine games.

On September 22, 2008, was presented the official World Cup mascot: Zakumi the leopard. The name comes from the words "ZA" (short for South Africa) and "Kumi" ("ten", the year of the Cup).
